Notes used in many of the essays in The Common Reader (1925), one of the six notebooks used for this purpose. Brenda R. Silver groups these notes into four groups: notes on the Elizabethans, including Greene, Jonson, Beaumont and Fletcher, Donne et al; notes for reviews published in the Nation & Athenaeum in 1925; notes following the publication of 'How it Strikes a Contemporary' in 1923; and notes on the Greeks for the essay 'On Not Knowing Greek' - Aristophanes, Sophocles, Philoctetes and Euripides (some texts read in French).
This large notebook is presented in two parts.
