1922-24   NYPL   Notes used in many of the essays in The Common Reader (1925), one of the six notebooks used for this purpose. Brenda R. Silver groups these notes into four groups: notes on the Elizabethans, including Greene, Jonson, Beaumont and Fletcher, Donne et al; notes for reviews published in the Nation & Athenaeum in 1925; notes following the publication of 'How it Strikes a Contemporary' in 1923; and notes on the Greeks for the essay 'On Not Knowing Greek' - Aristophanes, Sophocles, Philoctetes and Euripides (some texts read in French).


This large notebook is presented in two parts.
